Compulsory Competency Based Training for Recreational Boaters
Mailed to all Recfishwest members 19th January 2004
The Minister for Planning and Infrastructure, Alannah McTiernan, has recently
announced (see enclosed media statement) that she intends to introduce Compulsory
Competency Based Training (CCBT) for recreational boat drivers. Alannah McTiernan
has asked the State Boating Council, on which Recfishwest is represented, to provide
advice on how CCBT would best be introduced.
Recfishwest has yet to form a position on this issue.
However, we, as well as a number of other organizations are currently working
with the council in its deliberations.
To help Recfishwest form a view reflective of our representees,
we would greatly appreciate your cooperation by answering the following questionnaire
and returning it in the enclosed prepaid envelope. Please circle most appropriate
answer.
1. Were you aware of the proposed introduction of a
compulsory boat safety training and licensing scheme for all recreational boat
