Trust works to avert fishing tragedies.
The Nathan Drew Memorial Trust is working to improve rock fishermen's chances of survival if they fall in the water through its "Silent Sentry" system and the hire of inflatable vests. One 12 year old has shown the benefits of wearing a self inflating vest while fishing.

Device saves boy's life four years on.
A safety device installed at a notorious fishing spot near Albany has saved the life of a 16-year-old boy after he was swept off rocks.

NZ Judge Finds "Wellbeing of the People" is the Priority in Landmark Fishing Ruling.
A NZ court found that the Minister did not properly apply the criterion of enabling people "to provide for their social, economic and cultural wellbeing", described as a "mandatory consideration", when allowing for recreational interests in the allocation of Kahawai (Australian Salmon) fish stocks.

Black Bream Restocking.
Greg Jenkins, from Challenger TAFE's Aquaculture Development Unit, has been one of the main drivers of the push for restocking through aquaculture in Western Australia. A recently completed six-year project involving black bream in the Blackwood Estuary gave some surprising and worrying results.

Anglers face much tougher limits on WA's most popular fish.
A week after announcing tough new restrictions on commercial wetline operators, WA Fisheries Minister Jon Ford has revealed recreational fishermen face big changes within 12 months. Reductions in the take of four popular species were a priority.

Anglers recapture Samson fish they tagged.
Keen angler Mick Holt reports in one day he and a friend recaptured four Samson fish they themselves tagged, including one fish they have recaptured twice. Beautiful photos demonstrating careful fish handling.
