Logue Brook Dam closure a growing trend
Collie-Wellington member Mick Murray says the decision to close Logue Brook Dam so it can be used for drinking water is an example of increasing restrictions on recreational activities. WA's peak fishing body says there is no need to shut fishers out of the dam because recreational fishing does not affect drinking water safety.

Inland Fishery Management Plan seeks anglers' opinions on what is important to them
An inland fishery management plan for Victoria aims to manage and improve recreational fishing in rivers and lakes. Views of recreational fishers and other community members are being obtained via public meetings.

"Eco tourist" works damage key fish habitat and spawning sites
Alleged illegal de-snagging and removal of large woody debris during the development of an "eco-tourist" facility has damaged a 3-4km stretch of NSW's Murray River and 2 nearby creeks and led to a stop work order.

Anglers sought for Recreational Fishing Advisory Committee positions
People with an interest in the management and conservation of recreational fisheries are invited to apply for committee positions on the Recreational Fishing Advisory Committee (RFAC) and 12 Regional RFACs.

Last days for comments on recreational fishing for demersal fish in West Coast region
People have only until Friday 16 November to comment on how the recreational fishing sector could be managed to ensure the long term sustainability of the "at risk" scale fish species and fishing for them.

Protocols for catching and caring for Samson Fish and other demersal species
Samson fish aggregate in large numbers to spawn during summer. Detailed catch and release protocols, aimed at maximising the survival of fish released by anglers have been developed from a three-year research study.

Commercial fishing from shore to be removed from part of Geographe Bay
Cape Naturaliste to Port Geographe will be permanently closed to commercial salmon fishing and beach seine fishing from 1 July 2009. Until then, commercial salmon fishing will be prohibited on public holidays and long weekends, from Friday to Monday during Easter and noon Friday to noon on Sunday on weekends during the April school holidays. Shark fishery has an effort reduction of 30% and 2 month pupping closure.

Recfishwest launches Young Future Leaders program in Western Australia
Recfishwest's 'Western Australian Young Future Leaders in Recreational Fishing' project will bring together recreational fishers aged under 35 who want to make a real difference. 15 people will get a unique opportunity to visit the Abrolhos Islands as it prepares for the commercial rock lobster season, spend time on a charter boat and a fisheries research vessel to see how compliance operates. 'Reel Girl' Jeni Lerch to run fly fishing clinic at Point Walter
A Pink Fly fishing clinic for women recovering from breast cancer will be held on Wed 28 Nov. Fly fishing is an excellent form of recovery exercise for breast cancer surgery and way to create a support network.
