Exemptions removed for Shark Bay Inner Gulf Pink Snapper

Exemptions have expired which allowed recreational fishers to land pink snapper in Denham/Shark Bay in accordance with rules for the oceanic stock. An initial reason for the exemption several years ago was to shift some fishing to the oceanic pink snapper stock but this has since been found to be significantly depleted.

Visual, game-like computer software is being developed to help fisheries scientists and managers show recreational fishers the results of detailed fish stock assessments. The FRDC funded project will enable fishers to explore visually, in a computer gaming-type environment, the types of impacts that fishing will have on the abundance of fish with variable recruitment (young fish joining older fish) in a particular area.
