Court told lobsters in holiday haul were all undersize.

A 31 year old man's holiday fishing trip led to a fine of $2,800 after he pleaded guilty to taking 15 undersize rock lobsters ranging in size from 58.7mm to 75.8mm.

South-west abalone virus spreading.

The disease ganglioneuritis has already killed thousands of abalone, costing the industry millions of dollars. The herpes-like virus killing abalone in waters off Victoria's south-west coast is now spreading east.

Recfishwest Talking Tackle Workshop.

Recfishwest is often approached by mums, dads and people who are taking up fishing for the first time who are not sure which gear or tackle is most suitable to their needs, how to tie knots or how to maintain their rod and reel. A workshop covering all this and more will be held on Wednesday evening 5 September.

Amateur fishers are cautioned about releasing fish.

A New Zealand decision allowing fishers to release alive fish above the minimum legal size has been welcomed by anglers who voluntarily fish at above the minimum legal size. The fisher is now responsible for ensuring that the fish is unharmed. It is an offence to return the fish if it is not likely to survive.

Proposed Closure of Part of Geographe Bay to Commercial Fishing.

WA Fisheries Minister sought comments on his proposal to close some parts of Geographe Bay to commercial fishing. His final decision will be announced in Busselton on 17 August.

Fishers confused over protection zone plan.

Professional fishermen in Busselton say most are confused by a proposal to ban commercial fishing from Cape Naturaliste to Wannerup, and still haven't got clarity which fisheries will be involved.

Young leaders to take a path less travelled.

Twenty of Australia's up and coming young leaders will advance their leadership skills by participating in the Australian Government's second Pathways to Rural Leadership Course. WA's participants are Alice Hurlbatt, Debbie Allen, Cameron Williams and Recfishwest's Policy Officer Kane Moyle.

Peel Harvey fishers reminded of annual set netting closure.

Department of Fisheries are reminding fishers that set netting is prohibited in the Peel Harvey Inlet during August, September and October. This closure applies to both recreational and commercial fishers.

Government's proposal for the crumbling Busselton Jetty.

For years, Busselton Jetty has sat in disrepair while the three levels of government discuss who should pay the bill. The State Government announced it would spend $6 million on repairs,but requires the council to rezone large parcels of foreshore land for development, changing the Busselton beachfront forever.
