Greens WA response to Recfishwest Election Policy

The Greens (WA) Inc. have responded to Recfishwest's Election Policy for 2008 as follows:-

I refer Recfishwest members particularly to our Marine and Coastal policy, within our Protecting the Earth policy series.

We strongly support responsible access to our ocean beaches and riverfronts by the public, including recreational fishers (I too am a keen recreational fisher), consistent with ecological sustainable management of all State waters.

We believe policies, legislation and rules are necessary to assist with conservation of the marine environment and are committed to ensuring adequate resources are provided for monitoring and enforcement.

I also refer to our Public Participation policy, contained in our Open and Honest Government policy series. We believe it is important for people to be involved in making the decisions that affect their lives and the environment upon which we all depend.

As anticipated in the last paragraph of Recfishwest's Election Policy 2008, our Marine and Coastal policy does not go into the specific detail contained in the Recfishwest policy. We are unwilling to make commitments on matters that affect the interests of other stakeholders who have not had a chance to have a say. However we do strongly encourage discussion with Recfishwest and also with other stakeholders about those matters, and I look forward to doing that in the future.
