Recreational Fishing Community Grants Programme

Recfishwest applauds today's release of the 'Recreational Fishing Community Grants Programme' by the Australian Government. This new funding programme will focus on enhancing recreational fishing opportunities and activities throughout Australia.

With $15 million contributed by the Australian Government over three years, Recfishwest looks forward to the implementation of initiatives involving the future management of fish resources and habitats for future generations.

"This new funding programme will help ensure the sustainability and quality of recreational fishing in Western Australia." Recfishwest's Executive Director Frank Prokop said.

"Recfishwest welcomes the prospect of funding for improved infrastructure, such as jetties, and access to popular fishing spots." More than 643,000 West Australian's go fishing at least once a year, and 24 per cent of all Australian households fish regularly. "This new funding program will ensure the future support and encouragement of this ionic Australian pastime."

"Recfishwest believes that the added support provided to local initiatives will enhance the recreational fishing and tourism experience, and at the same time protect important fish resources and habitats. Funding of initiatives that promote responsible fishing and fish release initiatives will have strong support from Recfishwest."

Recfishwest appreciates the Australian Governments support promoting and advocating recreational fishing.
