Layout

All pages on this website have the same consistent layout, appearance and features as listed here, following many familiar website conventions and standards.

Links

All links are always underlined and visible. Underlining is not used except for links. There are no hidden active links. Some underlined examples in this section are not real links.

Links which have not yet been used are underlined and coloured blue. Links which have been used change colour to the colour purple. Active links are coloured red. These links change back to blue when you clear your browsing history.

As the mouse moves over a link, the background changes to a darker yellow like this:-

Some images will also act as links. Except for the sponsor images in the left hand panel of every page, every image which is also a link will also have the link description in words near the image.

Rearrangements of external websites may remove or change some external links. Links quoted are checked from time to time and updated or removed except in PDF versions of "Casting Around the Internet".

Browser windows and tabs

When you click on a link, all links to pages on the Recfishwest website open in the same browser window or tab currently being used. One exception is the Help about email which pops up in a smaller window so details of the current page stay visible for you to use. Your browser pop up security settings can prevent this window from opening.

When you click on a link to an external website, these open in a new window or tab. In most cases, this is shown by the words "(link opens in a new window)" next to the link. Some recent pages will also mark the link with a new window symbol

Window size and content width

The left column containing the links and logos is a fixed width. The main content panel is variable width. The website allows the user to adjust the overall width of the window and still see all of the contents of the page. Narrow windows may require some horizontal scrolling.

Font and font size.

All pages use the same font in the same sizes for the same type of content. The website allows the user to increase or reduce the size of the displayed fonts using the standard features provided by browsers.

Age of the information on the page.

All pages show when the contents were last updated. Formatting and layout changes and minor corrections are not usually listed. Pages existing before December 2003 show that as the last update date.

Date layout.

Most dates used show the month as a word or abbreviation. Any numeric dates will be in the conventional Australian format order of dd/mm/yyyy or d/m/yyyy, meaning day/month/year.

PDF and other files

All files in PDF or other formats are marked after the link with the file type and size, example Description of link (85 kilobyte PDF file). Internal and external PDF links nominate "the same" or "a new" window as above, but the actual display result can be decided by settings in your browser and PDF reader program.

Printing of pages.

The header from the top of the page, the essential contents and a numbered list of the link URLs will print full width on either portrait or landscape A4 page layout at the 100% browser setting and the normal font size. Some external link references are very long and the browser may print these extending past the edge of portrait pages.

General background colours, link menus, logos and content from the left hand column are not printed.

Javascript

This website uses some Javascript, but does not require Javascript to be enabled except to allow the features of (1) sending an email messages linked to that current page, (2) the pop up Help about email window, or (3) the numbered list of URLs in the printed version of a page.

Privacy, cookies and counters.

The website pages use access tools which record information for monitoring of website page popularity and usage, website management, research and development. The information collected includes the Internet address of the computer accessing the website, but this requires additional information not available to Recfishwest before it could be used to identify any individual computer or user.

Recfishwest does not collect personal information about people who browse the Recfishwest website. The website does not collect personal information through the use of cookies or any other information collection technologies which identifies individuals.
