Re Congratulations on Swan River Initiatives

Recfishwest would like to congratulate you on your announcement on 4 December on additional funding for the Swan and Canning Rivers environmental programs.

It was particularly pleasing to see a large number of the issues which we have raised with you and the Swan River Trust being directly addressed as part of this new funding. Work on cobbler, Western school prawns and a River Guardians program are especially commendable.

Recfishwest has been working closely with the Department of Fisheries and Murdoch University on ecological issues associated with the Swan and Canning Rivers and will continue to assist them and the Swan River Trust wherever possible.

Recfishwest finds it somewhat ironic that the media outlets were not interested in a public statement from us on your announcement when we made it clear that we would be praising these initiatives.

We were also pleased to see that you are looking to address similar issues in the Peel-Harvey estuary as well as the Swan Canning.

Once again, thank you for this announcement and we look forward to working with you, your staff and relevant Department's on optimising the community benefits from these initiatives and developing similar programs for Cockburn Sound and other south-west catchments.
