Recreational Fishing Industry Study Tour to United States
Expression of Interest
Recfishwest will be hosting a study tour following the World Recreational Fishing Conference held in Dania Beach Florida, 10 - 13 November 2008. The study tour is supported by funding from the FRDC on behalf of the Australian Government.
The Study Tour will run for 9 days directly after the Conference and will provide an opportunity to learn from American recreational fisheries management systems with a particular focus on Marine Park Planning, Stock Enhancement and Artificial Reefs.
Recfishwest requests interested delegates to register their interest to be a part of this study tour. Positions on the tour will be capped to 14 so it is important that you register. Costs associated with activities during the tour will be provided. Accommodation and internal flights will the responsibility of the participant. More details to follow.

| Draft Program Itinerary - November 2008 | |
| Sunday 9th - Thursday 13th November 2008 | World Recreational Fishing Conference, Florida. |
| Afternoon of 13th | Pick up mini bus and drive south to Florida Keys. |
| Friday 14th | Charter boat to inspect marine park planning and infrastructure issues in Florida Keys marine park. |
| Saturday 15th | Visit the visitors centre - drive to Tampa Bay - approximately 400 km. |
| Sunday 16th | Free day. |
| Monday 17th | Visit red drum hatchery and discuss enhancement programs including performance measures.
Meet with commercial fishing industry reps to discuss consequences of banning gill netting by referendum and what it has meant. |
| Tuesday 18th | Early fly to Washington DC - pick up transport - afternoon visit with RBFF the peak body Alexandria Virginia (6 miles from DC) on "Take me fishing" and other extension projects. |
| Wednesday 19th | Drive to Newport News Virginia to meet with Virginia Marine resources commission officers about artificial reefs project. Approximately 350 kilometres. Meeting with Virginia Institute of Marine Science John Lucy. |
| Thursday 20th | Charter boat inspection of artificial reefs - possible inspection of soft shell crab production facility. |
| Friday 21st | Meet with John Hoenig on tagging programs - drive to DC. |
